Ruth Clausing

Ruth Clausing grew up in a Christian home in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.  As a youth she sang solos and with a girls’ trio in various churches.  She later became a choir director.  She was an active pastor’s wife for 40 years and has been married for 60 years.  Before graduation from college she was a school teacher in a one room school in Pennsylvania for a short time.  After the birth of her children and graduation from Kent State University she was a fourth-grade teacher in the Elyria, Ohio Public Schools and later a learning disabilities tutor in Miamisburg, Ohio, retiring in 1999.  She was active in her local church serving in many capacities including chairperson for Missionary Education and more recently for the second time as treasurer of Epworth United Methodist Women.  For many years she served on the board of United Church Homes, which operates retirement homes in many states.  She organized and coordinates the Sewing Sisters that make hygiene kits for Fond Doux, Haiti.  For several years she crocheted afghans for a prayer shawl ministry and now makes charity quilts.  She still sings in the choir.
