Can We?

Improve Health Education and Access to Health Care

Community Health Awareness

Originally on each mission trip FDF mission team members conducted classes with translators on First Aid, Preventive Medicine and Pre-natal care. Now most of these are taught directly by a Haitian registered nurse paid for by the Foundation.  Classes now also include Birth Control and Aids Prevention.

*   Community Health Worker

To provide for some emergency care a Fond Doux village woman has been hired to provided first aid and rehydration availability.  She also distributes hygiene kits for teen-age girls and post-delivery mothers and instructions in how to use them.  Pre-natal vitamins and medical supplies are provided by the Foundation.

* Days For Girls

The sewing sisters of Epworth Church make hygiene kits with washable sanitary pads to enable teen girls to remain in school.  The program has been well received. Twenty-nine different churches have participated in the project.

* Advanced Care/Surgery

Almost every time a mission team visits Haiti, we are presented with medical needs that far exceed our capabilities to serve.  People are in great need for advanced medical care.    Hernia repair is a very common need.   As we are able, we fund more advanced medical evaluation and care.   We are very limited by available funds to help all of those who arrive at our medical clinics with no where to turn for help; the need always exceeds our available funds.
